It worked!!! now I'm excited to be able to do this on my own! so...where to begin??
Everyone has seen the pictures of me and my legs so i will start there. They are great and i love them. It's a lot of hard work learning to walk again when you are 46 yrs. old, but I'm so glad i have them. Most people ask how it feels? Well it hurts some because of the pressure i put on my knees. You see I don't really walk on my little nubs, there are two bones below the knee that all your weight rests on and that is what i mean by pressure being on my knees. I have to use a lot of hip muscle to get my legs to move but once i get going its OK. I have my knees and i just have to remember to bend them when i walk and when i step up or down. I used to feel like Frankenstein but the more i practice the better i get. I go to physical therapy twice a week and they really help me with weight lifting and balance and of course walking. As of this writing I'm up to about 7 minutes on the treadmill. Now this may not seem like much, but you try walking on your knees around your house for 7 min and you find rather quickly it takes a lot of work using muscles you forgot about. So for me it's using a lot of hip and back and core muscles to get me going. We are working on stamina or prolonged walking. Usually i will walk to the car and sit, walk into church or a Dr. office and sit...walk and sit, that is great but i need to be able to walk and stand for long periods of time just like i use to so....i walk on the treadmill and i try to Ware my legs more and more.
Now for my hands...I had surgery on my right hand Dec. 17 and will have my left hand done on Thursday the 14th of January. It's not so much to fix my hands but to keep them from getting worse. The nerve damage caused by the Sepsis(sp) will probably never be fixed but i will take what i can get as far as my hands are concerned. I'm still able to squeeze a pastry bag and frost my cakes and roll out fondant and make my gum paste flowers and so i feel very blessed to have hands that are not quite perfect but they work just fine for me. Hey i still have them and that is a blessing.
Now for a kid update...Stevie is dancing for her high school dance team as a junior this year and is having tons of fun with her friends. Of course it's basketball season and she is working really hard to make every dance. See they have to tryout for a dance each week and that means learning a new dance every week and trying out and then preforming. She has a goal of making every dance and so far she is doing great and hasn't missed one. She is also working hard for the State Dance competition in April.
Aubry just finished her first day of school for a degree in Massage Therapy and we are hoping she does well in this new endeavor. She is living apart from her cute kitty Squirrel and he misses her. His nap time is spent on her bed and play time is spent hanging on our cat momma kitty or hanging on my living room curtains!!! She is living in Mesa A.Z. with Kim and Daren. She told me her dream is to work on the Disney Cruise line. You go girl we need a discount!!!
Lisette and her husband Robert are living in Cedar City U.T. while Lisette is going to school to earn a fine arts degree at SUU. Robert who has a fine arts degree is working construction so our Setty can go to school and so he can find a graduate school to go to. Anyone know of one here in Farmington??? They have a kitty named Slick. My first grand kitty. Yep you heard right a kitty not a grand child!! I hint and hint to them but someone must have super glued their ears closed because there are no grandchildren is site for this President of the "Wanna Be A Grandma Club".
Jim is my hero, he works so hard for our family. What can i say? he has helped me so much since June. I woke up to see his face and learned that he never left me alone while i was in the hospital. I slept for about 6 week and apparently he didn't sleep for about 6 weeks...not very much anyway. He has held me as i cried when i felt like a fish flopping on my bed!!, held me as we laughed together and made jokes about my cute shorter legs. He has held my hand when i could not lift my head and he has learned to put my earrings in because my hands won't let me. He has wiped my tears and other things as well, he has just loved me and i am the luckiest woman in the world to have married him. I tease him that he has been with me through baldness and chubbiness and a scared and wrinkly no legged body! Sometimes i feel sorry for him he has been through so much with me, but i guess he can never say i was a boring wife!!!
That's all for now (like that wasn't enough!!) Hugs! Dee
Ok, so this is my first solo post, no one helping me and i want to see if i do it right so hang in with me while i learn. :)
